While learning a new language and a new culture, the family was able to obtain a rent-controlled apartment in Chinatown.</h3>Connie’s mother developed the skills she needed for a new career as a claims processor at Chinese Hospital, thanks to classes available at City College of San Francisco. After graduating from Galileo High School, Connie earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of California – Davis, and then went to work giving back to the community that had done so much for her family. Connie started her career as a volunteer Chinese interpreter, working with pro bono attorneys for the SF Bar Association's Volunteer Legal Outreach, and as a community organizer for SF SAFE and the Community Youth Center.

<h3>Now, Connie represents District 1 on the Board of Supervisors, which includes the Inner Richmond, Central Richmond, Outer Richmond, Lone Mountain, Golden Gate Park, Lincoln Park, University of San Francisco, Sea Cliff, and Presidio Terrace neighborhoods.</h3>First elected in 2020, Connie has served as the Chair of the Board of Supervisors Budget Committee since February 2023, and also serves as a member of the San Francisco County Transportation Authority, the San Francisco Local Agency Formation Commission, and the Free City College Oversight Committee.As Supervisor, recognizing the looming threat of federal cuts, Connie proactively created a $400 million revenue risk reserve fund in the 2025-2026 budget to ensure funding would be available for healthcare, food security, housing, and other services at risk of being cut. And in the face of attacks against our immigrant community, Connie introduced a supplemental budget to provide additional aid to immigration defense collaborative, to provide legal services, support and education.

The Trump Administration has been a disaster on foreign policy (as well as domestic). Connie Chan firmly opposes Trump’s destruction of programs that supported vulnerable children and families overseas and their foolish trade war that has hurt our relationships and raised prices for consumers.&nbsp; Connie is firmly committed to a foreign policy that prioritizes peaceful solutions and supports democratic ideals and human rights. She will push to de-prioritize the use of military force and work for fair trade that uplifts workers and protects the global environment. And she will work to restore critical and life-saving foreign aid programs. Connie will also work to restore the relationship with allies that the Trump administration has destroyed. Trump’s threats to invade the territories of key allies such as Canada and Denmark have pushed away partners and made the US less safe. Connie will work towards a national security strategy that is based on strength being based not in bluster and bombs but in alliances and cooperation.&nbsp;
