Connie Chan Earns Sole Endorsement of the California Federation of Labor Unions
Latest Endorsement Confirms Chan is THE Candidate for Working People
SAN FRANCISCO — The California Federation of Labor Unions today gave its sole endorsement to Supervisor Connie Chan in the race for Congress in CA-11, marking her as the choice of working people in California. Momentum continues to build for Chan as she racks up endorsements from top elected officials, community groups and, now, California’s largest labor organization.
"The heart of our democracy is not found in corporate boardrooms but on the picket lines with working people. I am deeply honored to earn the sole endorsement of the California Federation of Labor Unions representing more than 1,300 unions and over two million union members across our state,” said Connie Chan. “The labor movement has always been the driving force behind better wages, safer workplaces, and a stronger middle class. I’m proud to stand with the working people of organized labor, and I will take that fight with me to Congress to protect workers’ rights and build an economy that works for everyone.”
“Working families need Democrats in Congress who have the backbone to fight for them and who are unapologetically pro-union. Connie Chan is exactly that kind of leader. California’s labor movement is proud to give her our sole endorsement because we know she’ll stand up for workers and fight for good union jobs,” said Lorena Gonzalez, President, California Federation of Labor Unions.
“In our current economy, working people need leaders who they can count on to side with them 100% – leaders who have walked the picket line and who understand how high the stakes are at the bargaining table,” said Lizzy Tapia, president of Unite Here Local 2 in San Francisco. “Connie Chan has shown time and again that she stands with union members and respects the dignity of working people. Hospitality workers and the entire labor movement are proud to support her for Congress.”
“Connie Chan understands that strong communities are built by working people and powered by good union jobs,” said John Doherty, IBEW Local 6 business manager and vice-president of the San Francisco Building and Construction Trades Council. “She has stood with labor in San Francisco and proven herself to be an honest leader whose word is her bond and who always looks out for working families. As we prepare to replace a legendary leader like Nancy Pelosi, sending a warrior for the working class like Connie Chan to Congress just makes sense.”
The California Federation of Labor is the statewide affiliate of the AFL-CIO, representing more than 2.3 million union members and 1,300 unions. It made its official endorsements in Congressional races at its convention today in Sacramento. This endorsement confirms Chan as the overwhelming choice of labor and working people. Chan has already earned the support of the National Education Association, National Nurses United, California Teachers Association, California Federation of Teachers, San Francisco Labor Council, San Francisco Building and Construction Trades Council, United Educators of San Francisco, San Francisco Fire Fighters Local 798, UNITE HERE! Local 2, International Federation of Professional and Technical Engineers Local 21, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 6, American Federation of Teachers 2121, Plumbers, Steamfitters and HVACR Local 38 and Teamsters Joint Council 7.

Connie is running to succeed Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi who announced her retirement late last year. She has been elected twice to the San Francisco Board of Supervisors in 2020 and 2024, and its Budget Chair since 2023. If elected, Connie would be the first Asian American to represent San Francisco in Congress.
